Current Events: Changes for Quarter 2!
All students now have the current event basics down by answering the: who, what, where, when, why, how of a world current event! This quarter, we will be adding a little more for a deeper understanding and application of comprehending informational text which supports our year long Social Studies goal. Students will now be required to answer one of the following questions in relation to the world current event in addition to the: who, what, where, when, why, how. You must also include where you got your information.
Current Events questions: *Pick one- in addition to the who, what, where, when, why, how
* Why is this event important?
* How does this event affect you?
* What affects will this event have on the world?
* Will this event have a lasting effect? Why or why not?
Since we are discussing current events more in depth, students will be assigned a due date for their current event.
*Please note, current events turned in after student’s assigned due date will result in reduced credit (late score). As before, if I am gone, students will save their current event for my return with no penalty.*Students signed up for a current event date on Thursday, October 18th.

Projects:
In social studies this year, students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and show the application of the content we are focusing on for the quarter. Students will complete four projects this year in social studies. One project each quarter. Students have freedom to pick a project from each level, one for each quarter. They vary in complexity. Students must pick one project from each column 1-4. Meaning they will only do a total of 4 projects for the entire year. They can pick what column they would like to do each quarter (order does not matter). Students will sign up to present their project the last week of the quarter. It is important that parents support their child with the project, but allow them to complete the project with minimal parental assistance.
Due Dates for Projects:
Quarter 1: October 15th- October 19th
Quarter 2: December 17th- December 20th
Quarter 3: March 4th- March 8th
Quarter 4: May 13th- May 17th
